or build up your body. Pedal or skate along the sand. Play
games that are good for the body and the brain. Or just
watch the waves kiss the shore. On Santa Monica Beach you
can be as active or laid back as you want to be. Because
in Santa Monica being who you want to be is the way of life.
An offshore breakwater keeps the surf gentle on Santa Monica
beach which makes it ideal for a plunge into the Pacific.
It's a great place to try body surfing or even boogie boarding.
Throughout the day, you’ll find loyal Santa Monica
surfers ready to catch that perfect wave. Be sure to check
with lifeguards for swimming and surfing conditions and
pay attention to posted rules.
Along the South Bay Bicycle Trail that sweeps and swoops
for more than 20 miles, you can bicycle or roller blade
right at the edge of the sand. You'll see every variety
of non-motorized wheeled vehicle here including skateboards
and scooters, tandems and tricycles as beach goers navigate
the shoreline. You can rent rollerblades, scooters, skateboards
and bikes, beach-accessible wheelchairs and sports equipment
at numerous outlets in the city and along the beach that
let you join in the fun.
Fishing off the Santa Monica Pier is a day and night pastime.
Serious fishermen stake out their favorite spots along the
Pier rails. But there's still plenty of room for you to
drop a line and wait for a bite. If you want to join in
and didn’t bring your gear, fishing rods and bait
are available at the bait shop near the ocean end of the
Pier. No fishing license required!
